FAQs

I would love to adopt!

Thank you for choosing to adopt rather than shop! We know adopting a dog can be very daunting, especially from abroad.

When our dogs are first rescued, they are often very scared, dirty, with little or no trust of humans.  By the time they leave for their forever home they will have developed into happy, more confident and well socialised furry friends, with a new personality all of their own.

This is not always easy, as most of our dogs won’t have ever lived in a home before.  They may be a flight risk, particularly when they first arrive.  They may have some behavioural issues such as separation anxiety, reactivity to humans and other dogs, resource guarding etc and they will also need help with their toilet training.

We obviously only want the best for our doggies and therefore we ask that all forever homes have the following:

  • All forever homes must have a secure garden.

  • All of our dogs should not be left alone for long periods without any appropriate care such as dog walkers or doggy day care.

  • All of our dogs must have regular exercise and have access to large open spaces such as fields and parks

  • As the adopter, you must have the financial means to look after the dog once adopted, including all veterinary bills.

  • When you adopt one of our dogs, they should be treated as an integral part of your family, and should only live with you as a house dog and never be left to live outside.

  • If at any point you can no longer keep your dog, you must contact the Great Bulls Team immediatley and return the dog to our care.

It is important that you take all this into consideration before choosing to rehome one of the Great Bulls Dogs as we would rather you supported us in other ways if you are not ready to adopt one of our dogs.

I would love to foster!

Fostering allows us to bring our dogs over from China or Egypt whilst we find them their forever homes.

  • Experience of owning a dog is essential.

  • You must have time and patience to offer the dog, and leaving dogs alone for long periods would not be in their best interest

  • You must be prepared to share your love and affection with the foster dogs with your own resident dogs, and give them time and space to settle and get used to one another.  This may not always happen immediately, and would sometimes need careful supervised introductions

  • A secure, safe environment would be required, especially in the garden.   A fully fenced outdoor space is ideal.  Many of our dogs would try to escape from any insecure areas, especially when they first arrive.  Home Checks would be carried out for anyone interested in Fostering.

Our designated foster co-ordinator Alex will be supporting you through the process and will keep you up to date and will be available for any questions that you may have.

Choosing your new best friend!

Now this is is the hardest part! Please have a look at our dogs available for adoption. It is important that you choose your dog based on your experience and what will be best suited for your home and social setting.

Please contact one of the Great Bulls Team if you need any advice on adopting one of our available dogs.

Are all the dogs healthy?

All of our dogs are checked over by our trusted vets once they are rescued. They also go through a health screening, as well as being vaccinated and neutered before they travel to the UK.

You will be informed of any medical or health issues that we are aware about before adopting the dog. However, we do advise taking your dog to your local vet for a check up upon adoption.

Are the dogs friendly with other dogs and cats?

All of our dogs are very well socialised and have plenty of interaction with other dogs, whilst at our boarding facility in China. However, this does not guarantee that they will get on with all dogs. If you already have an existing dog at home, then we recommend that you introduce them slowly.

Currently, we are unable to cat test any of our dogs however some of our dogs maybe in private foster in China or a UK surrender who have lived with cats.

Can I adopt outside the UK?

Yes, some of our doggies have been adopted in Holland  & Germany. Please get in touch if you would like to enquire about adopting outside of the UK.

Can I adopt if I have children?

We generally do not accept applications from families who have children under the age of 8 years old, however this may vary depending on your previous experience and the specific dog that is being adopted.

How do I foster a Great Bull dog?

You will need to apply the same way as you would if you were adopting a dog. When filling out the adoption form please specify that you would like to foster only.

Completing an application form

Once you have seen the dog you would like to adopt or foster please fill out the Adoption Application Form. It is important that you fill in this form  as thoroughly as you can as this will help with us processing your application.

We will then process your application and if we feel you are a suitable match, we will get in touch to discuss your application further which we aim to do within seven days.

Paying a deposit

Once your adoption application has been successful, a £50 deposit will be required in order to proceed onto the home check stage. The deposit is only refundable if the home check fails, or if your current dog and potential adopted dog do not get on during a meet and greet.

The adoption donation ranges between £600 - £800 which includes their microchip, vaccinations and neutering. The £50 deposit will be taken off this amount if the adoption goes ahead.

A deposit is not required if applying to foster one of our dogs

What happens next?

Once your application has been successful and paid your £50 deposit, we will arrange a virtual home check with you to ensure the property provides a suitable and safe environment for the dog. We need all family members to be available for the virtual home visit. This gives us all a chance to talk about rescue and we can learn about your expectations for a rescue dog. If you have existing pets, it gives us a chance to meet them too. We also check your garden security of gates, fences and doors.

You will be contacted nearer the time by a member of the Great Bulls Team to arrange a virtual home check.

We will also contact your Vet and ask them to provide a reference.

We will keep you up to date in regards to your dogs flights and inform you of any changes that may delay them leaving China/Egypt, such as changes in their health or a disruption to travel plans which will be out of our control.

The adoption fee will also need to be paid before you collect the dog during this stage.

Please use this time to also help us fundraise for the flight  to bring your dog over from China, which currently stands at £3000 per dog.

How much is the Adoption Fee?

The adoption fees varies  between £600 - £800 as our dogs incur different transport fees, therefore please contact us on greatbullsofchina@gmail.com to confirm the adoption fee for the dog you would like to adopt.

If the dog that you wish to adopt is still in China, then we ask that you help us to fundraise to bring them over to the UK. Due to the increasing costs of flights since COVID, we cannot guarantee that we would be able to fly your dog over to you without you covering the cost of their flight. If you do cover the flight cost for your dog then the adoption fee will not apply to you.

The adoption fee can be paid whenever you choose, however it must be paid no later than on arrival of the dog.

How will I collect my dog?

You are able to collect your new best friend directly from Great Bulls of China HQ. If you are unable to collect directly then we can arrange special dog transportation that will pick up your dog and bring them right to their forever home with you. They will ensure that your dog is cared for and has a comfortable ride on their final leg of their journey! This will however come at a cost which is based on milage. You will be contacted by a member of the Great Bulls Team to discuss your dogs travel arrangements nearer to the time of their journey home.
